On November 25, 2025, the Law Enforcement Academy under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the opening of the trainings «Preventing Extremism through Critical Thinking and Professional Education». The event was held for the first time and is implemented jointly with the Representation of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the PREVECA II project.
In his welcoming remarks, Rector of the Academy Nurgalym Abdirov emphasized the importance of developing critical thinking as a tool to counter destructive ideology. He noted that extremism aims to control consciousness, while the ability to analyze and make logically sound conclusions is one of the key factors in protecting against recruitment and psychological influence.
The opening was attended by GIZ Project Leader Stefan Buchmaier and Police Chief, Head of the Campus of the Hessian University of Applied Sciences in Public Administration and Security (HöMS) Matthias May. After the official part, participants took a group photo and proceeded to work according to the program.
During the first session, trainees from the prosecution and police bodies became acquainted with Germany’s experience in preventing extremism within the police system, staff training processes, issues of internal control, and HöMS research projects in the field of resilience to extremism.
The opening of the trainings marked the starting point of a four-day program aimed at developing professional skills and enhancing the readiness of law enforcement personnel to counter modern threats of radicalization.
