On June 27, 2025, a round table discussion on inter-agency research took place at the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The topics were “Determinants of Recidivism and Its Prevention” and “Preventing the Spread of Drug Use Among Youth.”
The event was organized by the Academy’s Inter-agency Research Institute. Participants included representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, various state and law enforcement bodies, the scientific community, and non-governmental organizations.
During the discussion, special attention was given to the problem of recidivism as one of the most dangerous forms of criminal behavior. It was noted that repeat offenses undermine the effectiveness of criminal justice and penal measures, reduce public trust in the justice system, and create additional threats to public safety.
Additionally, attendees examined the reasons behind the involvement of youth in drug use and distribution, problematic aspects of inter-agency cooperation in drug addiction prevention, and mechanisms and strategies for countering this phenomenon.
The round table concluded with the development of recommendations for improving the prevention of recidivism and drug addiction. Suggestions were also made for the resocialization of convicted individuals and for the early detection of drug-related issues among young people.
