The lecture of the head of the Digitization Service of the Nazarbayev University Library Library Tolkyn Dzhangulova, which shared the experience of providing open access to scientific works of teachers, scientists, as well as magistracy and doctoral students, was held at the Law Enforcement Academy.
Open access is an international academic movement that seeks to provide free access to scientific publications on the Internet.
At the end of last year, the Academy staff took part in the seminar “School of library skills” organized by the Nazarbayev University Scientific Library.
Adopting the experience of the flagship of the country’s higher education, the idea arose of creating the Academy repository as an integral part of the university’s electronic library.
To create the repository, free software was used – DSpace. This is a product of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is the best technical university in the world.
Despite many difficulties, it was possible to implement the specified software in a short time. Since February of this year, the Academy’s institutional repository has been available on the Internet at rep.academy-gp.kz. Today, it already has over 200 documents available for viewing and downloading.
