Basic Digital Forensics

The Academy has completed the second stage of training for the Pool of Prosecutors specialising in combating cybercrime. The training was organised as part of the implementation of the Concept for the Development of a Unified Training System for Criminal Cases Involving a Digital Component.

The relevance of this topic stems from the rise in the number of crimes committed using information and communication technologies. When online, criminals inevitably leave digital traces that serve as evidence.

Particular attention was paid to helping law enforcement officers understand the role of digital technologies in modern crime, as well as the specific nature of digital evidence, its sources and the principles of working with it.

During the training, participants studied the characteristics and sources of digital evidence, as well as the procedures for its detection, recording and seizure. The practical component included exercises on formatting, wiping, encrypting and hashing data.

An expert from the Forensic Examination Centre of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan was also invited to lead the sessions, sharing practical experience in this field.

The implementation of the programme contributes to enhancing the professional competencies of staff and strengthening practical skills in handling digital evidence, which is of key importance for effectively combating cybercrime.
