An online seminar on the investigation and documentation of torture was held at the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies.
The training event was the final in a series of trainings for employees of territorial divisions of law enforcement agencies, organized jointly with the Representative Office of the Foundation Friedrich Ebert in Kazakhstan.
Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, forensic experts, as well as lawyers of the Aktobe and Almaty regions were trained.
During the training, topical issues of documenting torture and improving procedures for identifying cases of ill-treatment of convicts were discussed.
The participants of the seminar got acquainted with the international legal standards for the protection of the right to freedom from torture, the specifics of investigating and documenting traces of torture, and the interpretation of medical data. To master the necessary skills, they practiced interviewing victims of torture and solving case problems.
