The online seminar “Effective investigation and documentation of torture and ill-treatment in accordance with the Istanbul Protocol”, organized by the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies in cooperation with the Representative Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan, has ended.
Employees of the Prosecutor’s Office, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, forensic medical expertise, lawyers of Kostanay and West Kazakhstan regions, as well as representatives of the Academy of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan were trained.
Speaking at the opening rector of the Academy, Maralbek Asimov and the head of the Fund Zauresh Shutova noted the importance of training in the context of increasing the efficiency of the investigation of criminal cases of this category, strengthen the protection of constitutional rights of citizens.
The participants of the training got acquainted with international legal obligations and standards for the protection of the right to freedom from torture, the specifics of investigating and documenting traces of ill-treatment, interpreting medical data, preparing a conclusion, and also practiced interviewing victims of torture and solving case problems.
Uzbek colleagues shared their national experiences in the field of combating and preventing torture.
Joint educational activities on this topic are conducted on a systematic basis. Last year, seminars were organized in Akmola, Karaganda and North Kazakhstan regions, this year-in Pavlodar and East Kazakhstan regions.
